Here is a small mystery that I still haven’t figured out. Why is it that the houses in Seattle (and the rest of the States?) have such high numbers? You enter a street of 20 houses and the numbers start at 11689 or something else in the thousands. Now it this was a isolated case I would have assumed that is because that avenue or street started somewhere else, but I have seen this strange phenomena so many times that I can’t help asking what the deal is. Anyone?

Scroll to the bottom of the page to the “North America” section. It doesn’t explain Seattle, but you get the general idea.

Farshid,
Since you’re in Seattle, you should know that King County has an additional twist with the location of the quadrant ordinal (e.g. NE, NW, SE, SW). If the address is on an east-west street, then the ordinal comes before the street name/number. If the address is on a north-south stree, then the ordinal comes after the street name/number.
For example, 19171 156th Ave NE is on a north-south street (156th Ave), and is just south of 192nd St. Conversely, 19171 NE 156th St would be on an east-west street (156th) just west of 192nd Ave. The first address would be somewhere in Woodinville, while the second address would be somewhere not far from the Samammish plateau.
