Calling International – JaJah.com

Update:Â JaJah has a Firefox Extension which is pretty handy as it highlights phone nrs in a page.Â
Came across www.jajah.com yesterday as I was looking up a friend’s number on my plaxo account. There they had a icon to call your friend the JaJah and I tried it and it was super smooth and good voice quality. On top of that it was cheaper than the provider that I am currently using.Simply put you type in the number (anywhere in the world) you want to call on the website and click a button. The service calls up your phone first and then calls the receiver and connects the two phones together. Everyone who visits the site gets three mins of free trial, so feel free to test it.
If you have other similar services that you are using and are happy with here in the States, please drop a comment and let me know.

And they have a Firefox Extension too. All phone numbers on websites are highlightend – you only have to click to establish a call – excellent add-on.
All the best
Martin
Oh, and you get a field in your toolbar, where you just have to enter an number you want to call.

That is a pretty cool util. I have been using Skype (with a SkypeOut account) for international calls. Since I travel for work out of the Country a lot, it gets difficult (and expensive — despite the fact that I never see my cell phone bill or have to pay it) to call back to friends and family in the States. With a ‘net connection, calls to the States are about 2 cents a minute which beats the typical 2-3 dollar/minute roaming rates. A cool utility which I also use to dial internationally from the States is EQOMobile. It’s an app that I have installed on my Treo and it links up to my Skype account and initiates the international call and then calls your cell phone and connects the two (same as JaJah).
Anyway, I usually get lazy and just direct dial from my cell knowing that work will pick up the tab, but on my own dime I’d probably continue using the SkypeOut/EQOMobile app since they have a Palm and PocketPC client as well, so it eliminates the need to use your PC…
